  • Testing for key workers

    April 27, 2020
Community coronavirus testing in Norfolk and Waveney now available to “key workers” (and/or household members with symptoms).
The NHS in Norfolk and Waveney is offering local coronavirus tests to key workers* such as teachers or food industry staff, to help them remain in work and continue to support their communities. This also applies to members of their household who may have coronavirus symptoms causing the key worker to self-isolate.
Testing will take place at three locations in Norfolk and Waveney:

    • The Centrum centre, close to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH)

    • The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn (QEHKL)

    • The James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) in Gorleston.
(See below if you would rather be tested at Ipswich, Stansted or Peterborough)

To book using the Norfolk and Waveney service:
People on the government key workers* list who need to be tested should ask their employer or line manager to register their organisation by emailing [email protected] with their (employer) name, job title and contact number. The registration team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital will then contact the employer to register their organisation so they their key workers can then book an appointment. The employer will be given a unique reference number and further instructions.
All applications will be checked to make sure people are well enough to attend a testing centre, and eligible for a test in line with Public Health England guidance.
People will receive their test results within 48 hours or less, either directly or via their employer’s occupational health service, together with initial advice about to what to do next.

Appointments at Ipswich, Stansted and Peterborough or other centres
If you wish to be tested at any of the national drive-through testing centres, such as Ipswich, Stansted, Peterborough and elsewhere, then you must use the national booking service. For self-referrals, this is via https://self-referral.test-forcoronavirus.service.gov.uk.

    Who are key workers?
    * Key workers include many people working in education, transport, many public services, energy, power and water/sewerage workers, and those working to provide, distribute or sell food. The precise definition is available on this government web page: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested#keyworkers

  • Message from George Freeman MP

A note from George Freeman MP

”I hope you are keeping safe and well in this time of national crisis.

As you can appreciate, I am flat out on helping local constituents, healthcare workers, businesses and Norfolk’s Covid Taskforce – and if there is anything I can do to help your areas on that, please do not hesitate to let me know. Please email any concerns or queries to me at [email protected]

I’ve also produced the attached contact note to highlight mine and the local authorities’ key contact details at this time. If you know of anyone that might need to get in touch with me during this tough period, please do pass it to them ”

  • Allotments

    ALLOTMENTS

This is the guidance from The National Allotment Society

    https://www.nsalg.org.uk/news/covid19-information/
“Following the instructions around movement and gatherings from the Prime Minister on 23 March 2020, we are consulting with central government but as we understand the situation at the moment it is still permitted to visit your plot, ideally on your own to take daily exercise. It is vitally important that you follow all the advice about social distancing and hygiene in the points below and not gather together on site.”
Any plot-holder who is self isolating because a household member is ill with corona-virus should not be visiting the allotment sites.”

  • Breckland Community Support Hub Network – COVID-19 Response

Breckland Council have now set up their Community Support Hub Network. The hub has been established at Breckland Council in attempt to help coordinate a joined up local response to the countywide strategy being developed to shield our most vulnerable residents.

They have provided some useful links and information for people regarding giving or receiving support.

Voluntary Norfolk will be using their volunteering portal to gather the various roles that are needed in the sector and they are encouraging individuals that would like to support the COVID-19 response to sign up via portal http://www.voluntarynorfolk.org.uk/ This Norfolk-wide volunteering portal aims to ensure help can be co-ordinated in a structured way to help or to do roles which require safeguarding and training. If you are in a position to be a volunteer – or you are volunteering already – please don’t forget to register online too. This will help give us a more complete picture of the support available across the district. Everyone’s aim is to ensure local people can get help locally through a combination of willing volunteers, local community groups and staff and that food and medicines can continue to be supplied to householders who are self-isolating without any other means of neighbourly or family support.

    Local Groups for Funding Support

Also, Norfolk Community Foundation has set-up a ‘Covid-19 Community Response Fund’ to support vital community projects which are well-placed to take action. This additional public fundraising will help to adapt or expand services to provide much needed care and support – now, and in the months ahead. You can help raise awareness in your wards of this fund, and of the opportunity to donate to it and encourage people to donate to it by promoting the schemes at the below link:

    Next steps

There will be public communication going out via Breckland Communications Team to advise best contacts for people needing help and support. Please look out for this on their our website and social media channels and help spread the message

  • Covid-19 update

    CORONAVIRUS – (COVID-19) – communication
Parish Council Office Closed to Public face to face contact until further notice

Following government advice Necton Parish Council office will be closed to the public for face to face enquiries. Office staff will be working from home and available by email – [email protected] and telephone 01760 721665. Please leave a message on our answerphone and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
We need to look after the well-being of our Council staff and our Councillors, so we have contingency plans for all eventualities, particularly for self-isolation. In terms of business continuity, for meetings and essential services there will be disruption, closures, postponements or cancellations. We will keep the public informed via the Council’s website but following last nights announcements everyone should be adhering to the ‘stay at home’ directive.

Things are evolving on a daily basis. Please check the NHS website for up to date guidance, for updates regarding symptoms and precautionary measures.
If you are feeling unwell, please use the NHS 111 helpline. There is also a good initiative shown locally with an ‘Emergency Group Necton and surrounding areas’ set up on Facebook and it would be good if all who have access to Facebook to join this group. There is also useful information and help on the Breckland Council website.
In these uncertain and changing times please keep up to date by checking the above websites or watch the official news on TV or via the radio.

  • Konect Buses- new bus stop now operating

Following enquiries from a resident at the end of last year the Clerk and the Councillors met with a representative from Konect Buses to discuss the possibility of having a bus stop at the top end of Tun’s Road. We are delighted to announce these bus stops are now in place and we have been informed these are now operational.

This will help those living at the top of road to access the bus route without having to walk further into Necton to the bus stop near the shops. The bus stop is outside the Community Centre for travel into Necton and the other is by the turning into the Costa and C0-Op site for travel out of Necton. The official bus stop signs are in place and the bus can be boarded or alighted from these stops.

Hopefully these stops will prove beneficial for those residents nearby.

A link to the projects is below.

Please remember a sub – committee is permitted to have members of the public sitting on it so, if you are interested in joining then please let the Clerk know.
