Junction improvement at Tuns Road / A47

Update from National Highways

Work will start on Monday 25 September, lasting until February 2024. The majority of works will take place on weeknights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am. There will be instances where we need to work 24/7 over weekends, where overnight works don’t allow us to complete certain activities in time. We will communicate those details in future updates.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A47 in both directions between Norwich Road roundabout, Swaffham and A1075, Dereham.

Whilst the road is closed, westbound traffic will be diverted via A1075, A11, A134, A1065 and Norwich Road, before re-joining the A47 westbound at Swaffham. Eastbound traffic will follow the same diversion in reverse.

Engagement event – 13 September

As part of our information sharing, members of the project team will be hosting an engagement event on Wednesday 13 September, between 2pm and 7pm, at Necton Community Centre,13 Tun’s Road, Necton, PE37 8EH

This will be a great opportunity for us to meet with you, provide detailed information about the planned work, and listen to any comments you might have. We look forward to meeting you.

Community impact

We are working closely with Vattenfall and UK Power Networks to minimise impacts to the local community, whilst their works are also taking place. Through effective collaboration, we are able to minimise disruption, shorten programme and share traffic management resources.

We understand that this scheme will result in various impacts on locals, particularly those close to our work site and compound area. To best mitigate these impacts, the following measures are being used:

  • Selection of specialist equipment to minimise noise, such as hydrogen powered temporary lighting and solar powered worker facilities, within the site compound
  • Noise monitors being installed to monitor noise levels throughout works programme
  • Use of temporary noise barriers around the site compound and when noisiest activities are taking place
  • A ‘no idling’ policy in place for all plant and vehicles on site

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience whilst we undertake these works to improve the local highway.
